 English, Western, Driving, Jumping and Dressage are taught by Linda Lanzer. Linda started her training at age 14 in Chile, South America, where she learned calisthenics on horseback and open jumping. She then continued at Merrymount Horse Center in Maryland, showing Hunt Seat and working with day campers. While acquiring her Veterinary Technician certificate at Michigan State University, she worked at a Hackney pony farm and trained a group of 4-Hers and their horses. She also learned the Monte Foreman style of Western riding and reining while riding under Tom and Toni Tenlen. In 1972, she attended Potomac Horse Center in Maryland and earned her Horsemasters Certificate in the advanced class taught by the British directors, Betty Howett and Collette Stevens. She finished first in the end-of-session Three Day Event (Dressage, Cross Country Jumping and Stadium Jumping) and was asked to stay and assist with the next 2 classes. She then returned to the Midwest to help a Wisconsin family start a training stable. For 3 years she managed April's School of Horsemanship (or Buffalohead Ranch) teaching Western, English and Driving to all ages. They also handled the trail rides and hayrides (with a team of Percherons and a team of Clydesdales) for Nippersink resort. After taking a break to learn computers and raise a family, Linda is now back in the horse scene and has been teaching adults and children locally since fall of 1996. In 1999, they bought a 5 acre farm and developed a lesson program that included opportunites for children and adults to learn about drill riding, showing and parade participation. She also started the mini driving drill team in 2002 that has performed around Illinois and Wisconsin. Heather, her oldest daughter was assisting with exercising, training and beginner lessons, but is now busy with her own life as a certified EMT and Massage Therapist. Heather started sitting on horses with her mother at 2 months and riding on her own at 2 years. She took her first ribbon (a red!) in a lead line class at age 2.5, riding English. She continued riding under Linda 's direction as time and horses allowed for the next several years. At age 8, she broadened her knowledge by attending horse camp at the Hastings Lake YMCA for 3 summers. At age 10 she was helping her mother exercise horses and break weanlings to halter at a nearby Paint horse farm. Then at age 12 she was back on the show scene with school horses from a local horse facility, placing in almost every class. While there, she assisted with children's lessons, pony rides, day camp, exercised the school horses to keep them in shape and trained a hi-spirited boarder pony. She then helped Linda teach children's lessons, train horses and exercise their own school horses. She continued to show horses and minis successfully, both in open and 4-H shows. During the summer of 2001 and 2002 she taught at the YMCA horseback day camp in Hastings Lake and was responsible for a number of horses and riders. Her younger daughter has helped with exercising and lessons, but is also heading on to her own life. Following in her sister's footsteps, Amber also started at a young age. By age 3 she was trying to lead horses around that her mother had exercised. At age 5 she was riding a variety of horses, following her mother around the arena or on the trail. She started showing on school horses from the local facility at age 6, taking her first blue ribbon at age 7. She inspired other young riders to grow in confidence by her example. Then she exercised horses and helped teach students how to groom and tack. She continues to show horses, ponies and minis in 4-H and open shows. Since 2002, she has been the lead in the Double L Mini Driving Drill team, drives a team of minis in the parades, and shows her Paint gelding.

All lessons include grooming and handling the horse on the ground. We believe that to be a good and safe rider, one must have the complete learning experience. Riders can develop their skills for showing, riding in parades, trail rides and drill team performances.
